Rooted in Iran an exhibition at HilbertRaum , Reuterstr. 31, Berlin in collaboration with the Iranian Female Composers Association (IFCA) 17 December 2021 - 09 January 2022 Opening Friday, 17 December 2021 |
What gives the impulse for a composition?
How does one work with sounds that only exist in the imagination?
As silent witnesses of the creative process, sketchbooks, notes, recorded improvisations and drawings provide insight into the everyday work of fourteen female composers from Iran. In addition to the the physical sketches displayed in the exhibition, the composers tell the stories behind their sketches in short audio and video contributions:
of the effort to fit the meter of Persian poetry into Flamenco rhythms whilst doing justice to two different cultures;
of the attempt to connect the Persian with the Western tonal system through abstract formal drawings;
of the mourning for a tree cut down out of greed.
